Reigning Sabalenka Secures Consecutive WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.
The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of High Performance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and picked up a historic £11m in tournament winnings.
She received almost 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
